Highlights from 2008

I photographed a JABIRU STORK in Willacy County!
In August 2008 my friend Rafa Flores called to tell me he had found a Jabiru stork a few miles from where I live. This was exciting news because the Jabiru's range is from southern Mexico to northern Argentina. We saw the bird outside Raymondville, TX, on the south side of Highway 490, 1/2 mile west of FM1425. I photographed the bird, met with Roy Rodriguez that night for confirmation of what we had seen and posted a notice on the Texbirds site. To see a few of the photos I took CLICK HERE.

Valley Land Fund's 2008 Photo Contest
I spent April, May and June photographing on the Guerra Brothers Ranch in the Valley Land Fund's photo contest known as the South Texas Shootout. Judging took place in July and the winners were announced September 20. As it turned out, I came in fourth overall, just missing placement as one of the three grand prize winners. You can see my 50-photo entry by clicking HERE. At the top left of the new page, click on "View" and then choose "Slide Show" to see all fifty photographs. Use the buttons at the bottom of the page to pause and resume the show.
