UPCOMING EVENTS AND ACTIVITIES

This page lists various photo and nature events Ruth Hoyt leads and co-leads: local nature photography classes, workshops, summer photo camp for kids and more. There are some diferences between a class and a workshop. In a classroom setting, participants bring their cameras and learn through lectures and camera handling and attend one or more scheduled classes. A field trip is normally included with Ruth's classes, to provide an opportunity to practice what has been taught in class. In a workshop setting, Ruth provides a balance between classroom instruction and applying these lessons in the field. She assists the participants and includes one or more in-the-field demonstrations. She is always available to answer questions and provide help and instruction.

Where you see the word "local" refers to the Rio Grande Valley of South Texas. She works in other parts of the country and world, but the majority of her classes are local.

For more information on any of these classes, workshops or tours, please contact her by phone at the home/office at (956)845-6200, cell at (956)330-2900 or by email at info@ruthhoyt.com

First is an abbreviated, chronological list of events, followed by a list of those events with details. Ruth has taught independently for nearly twenty years but has begun working in several new locations and with different organizations.

    PHOTO TOURS & TRIPS - 2010

  • Private Santa Rosa Hacienda and Ranch Photo Tour, May 23-29, 2010 (Guanajuato, Mexico)
This tour is NOT available through any agency or tour group.
Join Ruth and tour co-leader Esperanza Chapa as we spend five full days of touring old Mexico in the state
of Guanajuato. Our accommodations are in an authentic 17th-century, privately-owned hacienda. All meals
except for when we are away from the ranch on day trips are home-cooked at the hacienda using
        traditional Mexican methods.
In late summer the numerous varieties of prickly pear cactus bear their fruit, called "tunas," and they are
delicious! Town festivals, ancient ruins, the hacienda and its courtyard garden are only a few of the subjects
that beg for photographs. Cost for this all-inclusive trip starting in McAllen, Texas, is $1,850.

  • Southern Alaska & Northern British Columbia Photo Tour, August 8-14, 2010 (Alaska)
Ruth Hoyt leads her southern Alaska and Northern BC seven-day photo tour in
August. It will be a repeat of past successful adventure tours photographing black bears, grizzly bears,
glaciers, alpine wildflowers, extraordinary landscapes and if we are lucky, wolves and Kermode bears.
The tour begins in Terrace, BC, and proceeds to Hyder, Alaska, our base for the week. Be sure to visit
John's website to see some of his excellent work and read more about this tour. Click on the Resources
tab and choose "News" for tour information.
